On Saturday, May 19, 2018, a day nationally recognized as Armed Forces Appreciation Day, The Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce gathered the surrounding community of businesses, organizations and volunteers to give back to the vast population of military personnel in Pensacola through the first-ever Star Spangled Salute: Festival in Appreciation. The Perdido Key Area Chamber worked with the office of Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) of NAS Pensacola to create an event for the troops, to show appreciation in how important their presence is to our country, our community, and our businesses.

The Star Spangled Salute: Festival in Appreciation was free and open to active duty and retired military, DOD and their family members. The festival hosted a day of games, activities, food, and entertainment for both kids and adults. The Perdido Key community worked together to show appreciation to families so that they can enjoy a day together, that they may not always get to do otherwise. “Often times our military members and their families make sacrifices that the rest of the world will never experience. Missed birthdays, anniversaries, births, deaths, baseball games, recitals; I could go on and on. But for a community like Perdido Key and Pensacola to come together in a combined unselfish act to say “Thank you” to those families makes me proud to be a member of this community. As a 24 year retired Navy Chief, I know first-hand how it feels to be appreciated…it is priceless” said Erin Wilmer Chairman of the Perdido Key Chamber’s Military Council.

This event is for the candidates running for Escambia County Commissioner in District 2, hosted by the Chamber and the League of Women Voters. Committee Members Penny Esworthy and Dana Pagador met with the League of Women Voters and set the date for July 18th from 6 to 8 pm. The meeting space was previously secured however Penny and Dana will be searching for a larger space for the community and each of the candidate’s supporters. A survey was sent out by the Chamber to ask Members how they feel about specific topics to be asked during the event.
The following items are main topics on the agenda:
