Committee Updates: January 2018

Business Retention & Workforce Development Committee
The Business Retention & Workforce Development committee met on January 18th at 8:30 am. The Perdido Key Chamber’s first breakfast meeting of 2018 will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2018, beginning at 7:30 AM at the Community Center located at 15500 Perdido Key Dr., Pensacola, FL 32507. 
The committee took this time to put together a final agenda for the breakfast meeting to include time for networking and breakfast, panel discussion, announcements and upcoming events and an introduction to new members. The topic for the February breakfast is Workforce Development. A panel of local professionals will discuss and answer questions on a range of topics relating to HR, employee and workforce development. Subjects to include but not limited to; effective recruitment, interviewing, setting wages & benefits, updates on labor laws, training investing retaining and incentive’s  for employees and empowering employees to achieve exceptional customer service. 
The panelists for the first breakfast meeting include Sharon Williams PHR, SHRM-CP, CSP of Landrum Staffing Services; Julie Arnett, SHRM-CP, FPC of Avalon HR; and Joshua Roth of W. Capra Consulting Group. Panelists for the following Breakfasts have been confirmed as well. April 24th, 2018- Glenn McDuffy from the UWF SBDC. June 26, 2018- Bri Snellgrove of Social Icon, and Molly Bruno of Gorilla Group, Charleigh Kennedy and Caron Sjoberg of Ideaworks.  
Based on interest on any of these subjects, the Business Retention & Workforce Development committee will follow-up the February Breakfast meeting with a more in-depth workshop which will be held in March 2018, either as a morning “Breakfast Brief” or a “Lunch & Learn” located at the Chamber office.

Meetings are open to all members, their employees, and prospective new chamber members. Breakfast will be served, so please mark your calendars now! Plan to attend to enjoy some networking, meet new potential customers, learn invaluable information to help your business grow and hear about what your chamber is doing for you!

 Military Committee 
The Military Committee met on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at 4:30 PM. The committee is currently working with MWR at NAS Pensacola to organize a special appreciation for the military personnel in our community. 
With national Armed Forces Appreciation day being May 19, 2018; The Perdido Key Chamber will sponsor a FREE event to all active duty members and their families, as well as, retired military members and their families. Attendance is expected to reach 2500 to 3000 personnel. The event will include a luau, regatta race, and a picnic. They are planning a Kid’s Zone with face painting, games, etc. There are also plans for entertainment and games for Adults. 
Sponsorship opportunities will be sought for in-kind donations, as well as monetary. 150 volunteers will be needed from our community for this event. If you are interested in helping out with this event in any way, please reach out to the chair, Erin Wilmer at

The Military Committee meets the last Tuesday of each month at 4:30 pm at Edward Jones: 12385 Sorrento Road, Suite. D2 Pensacola, FL 32507

Advocacy Committee 


The Advocacy Committee met on Wednesday, January 31st at 8:30 am. This meeting for the group was unique in that the committee decided to host an open community event meeting with Commissioner Doug Underhill present as our honorary guest. The purpose of the meeting was to promote community involvement, increase Advocacy Committee membership and to advocate that our strong partnerships with other organizations in our community are in alignment and working together as a team to support common initiatives and concerns on the key. 
Doors opened at 8:15 am with coffee and pastries. Chairman of the board, Cam Price opened the meeting and discussed our mission and values and introduced the Chamber Board Members. Each Board Member, committee chair spoke about their committee, mission, and upcoming events.

Kim Parker thanked all speakers and introduced Commissioner Doug Underhill. Commissioner Underhill then spoke for the remainder of the meeting about each of the topics discussed by our speakers and entertained questions for the audience. Several attendees stayed after to speak individually with commissioner Underhill. Feedback from the majority of attendees showed the meeting as a successful, informative, timely and well organized, including compliments from Underhill himself. Some attendees suggested hosting a bi-annual or quarterly meeting in the future.
