Committee Updates: September 2017

Business Retention & Workforce Development Committee
The Business Retention & Workforce Development committee met on September 21st at 8:30 am. The committee continued the discussion from the last meeting, choreographing the 2018 breakfast networking and training schedule. The planned dates are as follows:

The location of the meetings are currently being organized with the host, so more details are to follow! The breakfast meeting speakers are scheduled to speak about specific topics appropriate for the time of year. The topics discussed include Workforce/Hiring, Social Media, Community Updates, Business Structure, and What’s your end game?/ business plan. The committee is still looking for speakers or presenters for the above topics. if you or anyone you know would like to present on one of these topics, please contact the committee chair, Jim Beran
The next meeting will be Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 8:30 am at the Chamber office. The committee will be discussing the next steps in breakfast meetings and choose speakers for in-depth training. If you have ideas that you would like to share, or would like to take part in the decision making, feel free to join!

 Military Committee 
The Military Committee met on September 26, 2017, at 5 pm. They are currently working on Wreaths Across America. With the Kiwanis Club of Big Lagoon, they are collecting funds to place wreaths on the graves in the Barrancas National Cemetery. Through their efforts, they hope to teach people in our community to remember and honor the sacrifices veterans have made for our country. The Wreaths Across America Ceremony will be held on December 16, 2017, from 9 am to noon. More information about this event can be found at
The committee is also still actively working towards organizing their first Annual Military Appreciation Picnic for military personnel and their families on May 19, 2018. Please contact or join the military committee if you are interested in helping with this event. 
The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at 4:30 pm. The committee is looking for members who are wanting to help support our military community and families. Please attend if this is something you are interested in.  If you have any questions, contact committee chair, Erin Wilmer
The Military Committee meets the last Tuesday of each month at 4:30 pm at Edward Jones: 12385 Sorrento Road, Suite. D2 Pensacola, FL 32507. 

Advocacy Committee 

The Advocacy Committee met on September 27th, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. The committee continued the discussion from the last meeting on underground utilities. There was also discussion regarding Triumph,  the use of registered voters lists, coastal clean-up participation and partnering with PKA and others on World Oceans Day. 
The committee also spoke about and would like to encourage all community members to attend a blood drive through One Blood on October 27th at the Shrimp Basket. 
The Chamber staff agreed to create a list of organizations that the committee members should consider attending to learn more about ways the advocacy committee can stay in touch. Some named at the meeting include Floridians for Better Transportation, Pensacola Chamber, Marine Advisory Board and BRACE. Some members in the meeting agreed to attend the meetings of Friends of Pensacola State Park, TPO meetings and TPO related meetings and PKA meetings. Charles Krupnick, of the PKA, plans to stay involved in our Advocacy Meetings.
