Committee Updates: July 2017

Business Retention & Workforce Development Committee
 
The July meeting was spent discussing the upcoming events for the 2018 calendar. The committee plans to host breakfast networking meetings that will be held either the 2nd or 4th Tuesday of the month beginning in February. These breakfast meetings will include a breakfast buffet complete with time for networking and an informative program. The location of the breakfast meetings are yet to be decided. The program will include an informative speaker, along with any community and chamber updates to be announced. If more in-depth training is needed on a particular topic, it will take place the following month at the Chamber Office. This is optional and will be determined once a speaker/presenter is consulted. Sponsorship details are still to be worked out in the next meeting. The committee plans to have a finalized synopsis of the breakfast meeting topics, dates, locations and times to be published in the 2018 Visitors Guide. 
 
The breakfast meeting speakers are scheduled to speak about specific topics appropriate for the time of year. The topics discussed include: Workforce/Hiring, Social Media, Community Updates, Business Structure, and What’s your end game?/ business plan. The committee is still looking for speakers or presenters for the above topics. if you or anyone you know would like to present on one of these topics, please contact committee chair Jim Beran
 
The committee also organized training sessions for the remainder of the 2017 year for members to learn how to access and use their Member Center. Beginning August 8th, training sessions will be available twice a month for FREE for all members. This is a chance to make the most out of your membership access to VisitPerdido.com. Using your Member Center, you will be able to submit events, job listings, news releases and more! Get your organization’s name out there by participating online! 
The sessions will be held at the Chamber offices the second and fourth Tuesday each month. The next sessions will be August 8th at 7:30 am, and August 22nd at 11:30 am. Be sure to register online to reserve your spot! 
 
The next meeting will be Thursday, August 17th, 8:30 am at the Chamber office. The committee will be discussing the next steps in breakfast meetings  and choosing speakers for in-depth training. If you have ideas that you would like to share, or would like to take part in the decision making, feel free to join!

Military Committee 
 
Military Committee is looking for members who are passionate about serving our military community.  We are actively planning events such as a Military Appreciation Picnic May 19, 2018 and we need volunteers and in-kind sponsorships.  We will also are teaming up with the Kiwanis club for the National Wreaths Across America Day, December 16, 2017 at the Barrancas National Cemetery to Honor Fallen Veterans.  The website is www.wreathsacrossamerica.org to volunteer or purchase a wreath.

The Military Committee meets the last Tuesday of each month at 4:30 pm at Edward Jones: 12385 Sorrento Road, Suite. D2 Pensacola, FL 32507. 
 

 
Advocacy Committee 
 
Advocacy Committee met for the first time since their last meeting on March 29, 2017.  First part of the meeting was spent getting acquainted with each other and catching up on what the committee had discussed in March.  The committee identified two focus areas for the committee to prioritize; 1. Turtles/Crosswalks–Leave no Trace and 2. Safety on the Key.  The committee added the following new items for discussion:  
 
1. the Theo Baars Bridge signage and signage on the key
2. Parking on the Key 
3. Bike/Walk paths 
4. Military 
5. International Coastal Cleanup and partnering with Perdido Key Association 
6. Heliport update 
7. Snowbird roost with Visit Pensacola 
8. Expanding the turning lane at the Gulf Beach Hwy./Innerarity/Sorrento red-light to relieve traffic congestion
8. Crosswalks on the key
9. Sundown Trash and Easement 
10. Education about Hurricane Season
