Committee Updates: July 2018

Business Retention & Workforce Development Committee
Chair: Jim Beran
The Business Retention & Workforce Development committee met on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 8:30 AM. The committee is in the planning process for the next Early-Risers Breakfast Networking Event on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. The topic for this next breakfast is “Future Development in Perdido Key”. The confirmed speaker for this event is Environmental Programs Manager for Escambia County, Tim Day. He will be speaking on behalf of the Perdido Conservation Plan and the developmental cap that is currently placed on Perdido Key. Other speakers for the event are yet to be confirmed.
Feedback from the last Early-Risers Breakfast focused on Social Media, was fantastic. There seemed to be much interest in a follow-up workshop opportunity for members to sit down and learn more about their Facebook, linked in and google business pages. The committee decided to do a workshop focusing on Facebook for businesses hosted in the chamber conference room. Attendees will be able to bring their laptops and work on their Facebook business page as they learn! A tentative date for this workshop will be September 12, 2018.
Meetings are open to all members, their employees, and prospective new chamber members. Breakfast will be served, so please mark your calendars now! Plan to attend to enjoy some networking, meet new potential customers, learn invaluable information to help your business grow and hear about what your chamber is doing for you! Members: $10, Non-Members: $15

 Military Committee
   Chair: Erin Wilmer
The Military Committee met on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 4:30 PM at the Edward Jones office. During this meeting, the committee was joined by a representative from the Panhandle Warrior Partnership, now part of Pensacola’s 90Works program, which helps veterans navigate the complicated Veterans Affairs system. The program helps veterans access various benefits, including educational programs, jobs, and medical care.
Since the overall success of the Military Appreciation Festival in May, the committee was faced with an opportunity to do more for military-based programs in our community until the event next year. The committee members shared opportunities available throughout the community that helps different aspects of military, such as homeless vet programs, food banks, military spouses, and military children programs. The Military Council has decided to pull together a complete list of opportunities around the community and make plans to gather groups of chamber members to volunteer. If you would like to volunteer for these types of events, or if you know of any events that this committee should get involved in, please contact the committee chair, Erin Wilmer!
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 4:30 pm at the Edward Jones office on Sorrento Road. Please contact the chair, Erin Wilmer, with any questions regarding the Chamber’s military council!
